Telephone
Landlines
Mexico’s telephone network is very well developed. You can call in Mexico from landlines and those are now charged as local calls. The service cost varies between US$ 20 – 70 per month.
Mobile Phones
You can bring your mobile phone to Mexico as SIM cards can be used in unlocked phones. All unlocked smartphones are compatible with Mexican data systems. WhatsApp is widely used.
Utilities
Electricity
Electricity is provided by the state-owned electricity company CFE. Electricity cost will depend on the location of the place of residence. Bills are paid monthly or every two months, either at the local electricity office, online, or at banks and convenience stores. On average, electricity costs would be around $10-50 per bill, but those who live in higher-end areas may pay up to $200 or more. Electricity in Mexico is 127V, with a frequency of 60hz.
Water
It is billed every two months and costs will depend on where you live. The water company can charge differently between cities and states.
Postal services
You can find post offices in all towns and cities in Mexico. Postal services are provided by Mexico's national postal service named “Correos de Mexico”.
- Mail to the US or Canada typically takes a week up to 10 days to arrive.
- Mail to Europe averages one up to two weeks.
You can also use international courier services provided by private companies.
Banks in Mexico
The Mexican banking system offers a substantial range of services for both individuals and companies. Mexican banks offer current accounts, savings and investment accounts, credit and debit card services, personal loans and overdrafts, mortgages, and online banking.
Mexico has some large banks operating which are global brands with branches around the world. To open a bank account, you will need to fill out an application form at the bank and show a valid temporary resident card – alien immigration registration card.
Transportation in Mexico
Transportation within Mexico is generally easy and efficient. Mexico has a good infrastructure, making it relatively easy to get around. Public transportation is a great way to get around Mexico as it is affordable and comfortable.
Plane
Mexico has around 50 airports nationwide providing regional and international flights.
Bus
In Mexico, almost every city and town has at least one bus station, and some buses go to different cities or states within the country.
Local buses and colectivos
Local buses travel within cities and from major cities to surrounding communities. Also, you can find those as colectivos, which are small buses.
Taxi
In most parts of Mexico, taxis don't have meters or taximeters. We advise that before you get in, tell the driver your destination, in that way he will tell you the price for the trip.
Subway
Mexico City has a great subway system that goes practically everywhere within the city.
